I love using scraps and thrifted fabrics, and 80% of this quilt is made from them. My Xs are all created by improvisational crumb quilting onto batting - making them thicker than the rest of the quilt. My first attempt at a gradient became a fun way to move the eye around the quilt. The quilt is comprised of half-square-triangles arranged over and again until I was happy with the X design. Coral fabrics were chosen for the background to make the Xs pop off of the quilt. The decision to quilt with simple lines and stitch-in-the-ditch around the Xs helps to emphasize all the nods to the X in the quilt. Even the background fabric has tiny Xs all over it. I couldn't be happier about how this quilt has turned into a joyful punch of bold color. I hope it spreads some joy wherever it goes!
