Stars Above is my modern take on a traditional fan quilt. The traditional fan is a versatile block that can be laid out in many shapes, styles, and designs. To give this quilt a modern twist, I added stars, rotated blocks, and offset placement. In addition, many traditional fan quilts are appliqued because of their curved shape. This quilt, however, is entirely pieced using both foundation paper piecing and curved piecing techniques. The bold color palette and use of solids reinforce its connection to the modern movement.
