An improv attempt of creating four-patch blocks from white and five shades of green became too chaotic and random for my tastes. I appreciated the pixelated appearance of the squares, but I wanted to push it further by making them orange peels and quarter rounds. White patches within the four-patches created a look of incomplete orange peels, or alternatively, of orange peels breaking apart. Whole blocks of white were mixed in the four-patch blocks to hint at an even larger orange peel shape that is shattering. Pieced binding using the same colors as the patches attempts to reduce the spread of the peel pieces. The free motion longarm quilting that Carol Noyes added brings completion to many of those partial orange peels, reinforcing the piecing's attempt contain the chaos.
