Sydney Modern Quilt Guild Kensington, Victoria, Australia
This is the first time I've designed a quilt from a brief and I spent the year writing about the process from brief to finished pattern for Make Modern magazine. It's also the first time I've made a quilt using curves, but is unlikely to be the last. The person I designed this quilt for didn't think she had a particular style, but after visiting her home, asking a lot of questions and showing her images of various styles of quilts, we settled on a modern folk theme and the Tall Poppy design is the result. The quilt shown here is the test version of the eventual queen size. I'd been wanting to make a cheddar quilt for a while and had purchased this yellow from Cherrybrook in anticipation. It's paired here with a Japanese cotton purchased in an estate sale and some pops of my own screenprints.
