Begun in a workshop by Sherri Lynn Woods, this piece is a whole bunch of U shapes created every which way I could think of. Uniform, short, squat, tall, skinny, wide, I played with the shape and colors until a satisfying little community had come to life upon my design board. Constructed using the traditional log cabin technique, I pieced the varied blocks together with the assistance of coping strips and worked to keep similar fabrics somewhat together. The result reminds me of a town with its different neighborhoods, each having its own similar yet different flavor. Bright pink brings everything together in a joyful sort of way. Made from a collection of mostly vintage and repurposed fabrics, primarily cotton, a few polyester. A giveaway decades’ old polyester low loft batting provides weightless oomph. And a vintage yet never used sheet is on the backside.
