Gainesville Modern Quilt Guild Gainesville, Florida, United States
This quilt was inspired by Frank Stella’s painting Jasper’s Dilemma, in which he explores Jasper Johns’ observation that the more he thought about color the more he thought in black and white. This quilt is an exploration of the interaction of value and color. At the center are black, white and gray–pure value. I built out from the center in light and dark sections of related colors, I also played with saturation–one section has muted colors and the other more saturated hues. As I quilted this on my domestic machine, I was delighted by the interactions of color where the bands intersect.
