I grew up with a father who painted. He instilled in me from a very early age an appreciation for art - the process of making art as well as other people's artwork. I visited with him this summer, and he showed me the volume of paintings he made over the pandemic. He is incredibly prolific and is such an inspiration to me. When I returned home to work on this quilt, I was completely absorbed in the present. Only after I finished the composition did I step back and realize how much of an influence my father has been stylistically as well - swooping abstract compositions, star motifs, and a bold color palette. I'm incredibly lucky and grateful to have a dad who has shaped who I am as a person and an artist.
