Using left-over pieces from another project, I designed and hand stitched this quilt top. I really enjoy hand-stitching - this is my seventh large hand-pieced project. Instead of EPP, I cut shapes and used a running stitch to piece together. There are 43 different Kona Solid colors in 5 different shapes. The total piece count is: 2,897. After all pieces were cut, it took 10 months to stitch together. The sides are hand appliquéd onto the border fabric. I quilted this myself on a domestic Juki machine using a cotton batting. The curves in the quilting are made to accentuate the hand-stitching, and I matched threads to fabric. An online friend suggested it reminded her of knitting patterns from the Fair Isles, and that's how it got its name.
