Even though I've been quilting for many years, I had never used appliqué in a modern quilt, but I really enjoyed the technique in this work. It allowed me to incorporate unusual shapes into the quilt — shapes which I thought would be impossible to sew using my usual techniques. I came to realize as I started to design and construct this quilt that I was going down memory lane. As a child taking trips to the ocean with my family, we enjoyed seeing all the colorful sea life. This quilt reflects those happy childhood times.
