I wanted to give the feeling of an idea coming to life through the creative process. My inspiration came from a picture documenting the process of creating the first quilt in my “Q is for Quilt” series. Working in reverse appliqué, I liked the open spaces that emerged in those early stages, but I didn't want to stop before the original idea was realized. I decided instead to revisit that concept in a new quilt. But as this project moved forward, the golden color dominated the composition. So, a third color was introduced and the piece took on new meaning. Instead of documenting a moment in the process, it became an active comment on how an idea solidifies. In the top left corner, the "Q" is completely white, a hint at an idea. As the eye wanders down to the bottom edge, the shapes take form and become more substantial.
