A prism’s function is to change the way we see light; to fracture that light into colors and change the perception of what we see. For me, this is seeing bright colors when I needed a reminder of light in the dark: a stained glass window, a kaleidoscope in the sun, and a fantastical flower that exists only in my mind. Newness is also a theme for me concerning the skills of this quilt: the first large scale English Paper Piecing project I’ve completed, new attempts at machine appliqué and combining free motion quilting and straight line quilting… and the first time the finished colors of a quilt have truly surpassed what I had hoped when planning.
