This quilt was made by 16 high school members of the Leeds Youth Advisory Board during the height of the pandemic 2020-2021. Social Justice Sewing Academy got the group started selecting their social issues of choice via Zoom. Each student designed their own block, selected fabric and cut and glued the fabric to complete their block. They then wrote artist statements that were shared with each adult who volunteered to hand (or machine) embroider the blocks to secure the applique. The blocks were then assembled into a quilt top by several members and adult volunteers- the denim used for the sashing came from the students. The quilt was custom quilted by Michelle Ramsay of @quilts_madewithlove.
