"Do I contradict myself? Very well then, I contradict myself. (I am large, I contain multitudes.)" Song of Myself 51, Walt Whitman Like quilts, we all contain multiple layers, some visible and others that are hidden. In this quilt, I wanted to explore that idea and especially the tension between wanting others to see us and yet also being afraid to show ourselves. In this piece, the complexity of the quilt underneath peeks out and gives hints of what it might look like. At the same time, there are many hidden elements to this quilt that are only apparent on closer glance, or when using special tools, like flash photography (go ahead and take a flash picture to see for yourself). This quilt is created by quilting a wholecloth piece over a completed quilt, then hand and machine quilting it using reflective thread and embroidery floss.
