This quilt was inspired by a tile pattern I came across in a restaurant several years ago. Varying the color/value of parts of the "tile" creates a 3D illusion and introducing negative space (by carefully removing some block components) enhances this illusion. The resulting design of interconnecting flights of stairs reminds me of the changing stairs of Hogwarts, the fictional school of Magic in Harry Potter. Hence the name Hogwarts Crossing.
