This is a small improv piece which includes improv piecing and hand embellishments, in addition to quilt-as-you-go technique and machine quilting. Fabrics are 100% quilting cottons, I love the solids by Alison Glass. Hand stitching threads are Wonderfil Specialty, 8g. QuiltCon2022 didn’t disappoint, with a workshop by David Owen Hastings. I designed the final layout to be reflective of beautiful Gull Lake, Michigan. I was out on a very chilly, very still, early Spring sunrise walk; the colors of the partly cloudy sky ranged spectacularly and reflected back into the lake—and it gave me pause! A fabric color wave is also appealing, and I then emphasized the wave in the pieced binding.
