Fabric has long been my favorite medium for creating art. It’s wonderfully versatile and I’ve explored many techniques using dyes and surface design. The construction of my pieces is very traditional but what I do with the fabric I use is what makes each one unique. I start each piece by sketching ideas but I usually have to rethink the original design as the work progresses. Every now and then, if I let go and let the piece guide me, I end up looking at something that leaves me wondering how I got there. These are often the pieces that I’m happiest with. My subjects have been both abstract and representational. But regardless of the subject, my goal is always to create a piece that will make the viewer glad to have stopped and taken a look.
