The patchwork in this quilt is based on a sixteenfold Islamic geometric pattern most famously found at the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. To give the quilt a modern twist, I used Kaleidescope shot cottons paired with gray linen for my background. I sorted 53 different fabrics into ten groups; blacks and dark blues for the stars and intermediary petals, reds for the petals of the central rosette, and the remaining colors for the smaller rosettes surrounding the central star, as well as the corner rosette petals. I like how the small rosettes spin around the center like a color wheel. I modified my original pattern to include a border to give the design more space to breathe, and I finished the quilt with dense, straight-line quilting.
