I started this quilt as a technical challenge to myself, but it now brings me peace in a way I never thought it would. My rule for the quilt was each rectangle had to have one X inside of it. I liked the technical challenge of pattern matching and the continuation of one X to another in certain places. I started to play with the boundaries of this rule, and the overall movement I could create for the whole quilt. Now the quilt speaks to me about the idea of each person being able to express themselves in their own way. We all have boxes and parameters we live in, but we are freer to feel and move about than we may think.
