The seam allowance, usually hidden, is the primary design element of this quilt. I used only white fabric to construct the blocks and placed them atop black batting to reveal the design. This creates the illusion that the quilt is created from gray and white fabrics. The small bright white lines are the extra layers of seam allowance below the surface. I chose white fabric for its transparency and as a reference to whole-cloth quilts, which similarly create their design using a single fabric color.
