The Pink Party is part of a series called Imagining Matriarchy where I imagine what the world would feel like if it were run by women. The black curves in this work, hanging from the top like party streamers, subtly situate blackness as a source of joy and celebration, one that dances in tandem with the vertical pink bars that may imply something feminine. This complex network, that can’t easily be untangled, visualizes a kind of unified intersectionality where facets of blackness and femininity or womanhood are not independent from one another, but rather, depend on each other and coexist. This relationship suggests a change in how gender and racial relations may exist within a matriarchal system.
