One winter night my daughter and I were driving home from town on the backroad when two jackrabbits darted in front of our car. They continued striding along in front of us, criss crossing each other so gracefully like a choreographed dance. It was one of those magical moments which felt like time slowed down for us to take it in. A memory that stuck in my mind which I felt must be captured in quilt form. The traditional Old Maid's Puzzle blocks represent the jackrabbits, and the background block shades represent the headlights illuminating the jackrabbits in the darkness. I naturally dyed all of the colors including the black focussing on very subtle yet profound differences in hues. The hand quilting was done in a cosmic pattern to represent the stars overhead on that cold, dark, high desert winter night.
