Welcome to BeeSewcialville, where everyone is welcome! Inspired by Stephen Von Worley's maps coloured by orientation, my prompt for my beemates was direction. I asked my beemates to make improv neighborhoods/city blocks, using scraps of different values of one colour on dark greys for background land and light greys for water. All of the blocks connect with at least one other block, my goal being to bring the different blocks styles together into a cohesive whole, much like urban planners have to do with cities and towns. It was such fun to puzzle through the final asymmetrical layout -- colourful neighbourhoods nest together on the northeast shore of the bay. There are two layers of quilting -- a grey map grid base set on the diagonal (domestic machine) overlayed with colourful topographical lines (long arm). Some of the roads continue through the binding to the world beyond.
