Nick Hoffman is a trial attorney who handles high-stakes civil litigation. His practice encompasses a range of areas, including intellectual property, unfair competition, media, entertainment, product liability, and other complex commercial disputes.
In intellectual property, Nick actively represents clients in copyright, trademark, trade dress, patent, trade secret, misappropriation of name and likeness, and defamation actions. Nick's intellectual property practice protects his clients’ ideas, technology, reputations, products, and brands.
In 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, Nick was recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine. He has earned trial victories in both state and federal courts, prevailed as lead appellate counsel in the California Court of Appeal, and won a precedential decision before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). In 2022, on behalf of footwear company Vans, Nick won a preliminary injunction against Walmart -- and forced Walmart to stop selling over two dozen knockoff shoes.
In Fall 2022, Nick filed an amicus brief on behalf of an art professor in the seminal copyright/fair use case of Warhol v. Goldsmith before the Supreme Court.
Nick is a graduate of UCLA School of Law, where he was a member of the UCLA Journal of Law and Technology. Prior to law school, he earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from UCLA, and worked at a biotechnology company developing screening tests for HIV and HPV. In the community, Nick volunteers with Bet Tzedek Legal Services, helping Los Angeles families secure care for those with physical, developmental, or intellectual disabilities.
