Join us for the unique opportunity to be part of a live studio audience! “The Reading Culture” podcast is recording a live session with We Need Diverse Books co-founder, Ellen Oh. Host and Beanstack co-founder Jordan Lloyd Bookey will interview Ellen about her revolutionary work with WNDB and as her journey as an author. They’ll explore contemporary issues facing the book world, especially book challenges and their disproportionate impact on books with diverse characters. Ellen will also share her thoughts on how to establish a stronger, more inclusive culture of reading in our schools and libraries. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask live questions before and during the session for inclusion in the final podcast episode. In its first season, “The Reading Culture” podcast features middle-grade and young adult authors like Meg Medina, Kate DiCamillo,Karina Yan Glaser, Varian Johnson, Renee Watson, Lamar Giles, and more.
Upon completion, participant will be able to clearly communicate the need for, history of, and the future of diversifying the publishing industry.
Upon completion, participant will be able to reiterate two unique perspectives about the children’s book industry and their thoughts on its continued improvement.
Upon completion, participant will be able to verbally share at least three mechanisms they use in their school/library to establish an inclusive reading culture, with at least three audience “neighbors.”
