Dr. Sterling is an interventional radiologist who has been in practice in Northern Virginia since 1995. He is Chief of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology of the Association of Alexandria Radiologists and Medical Director of the Advanced Interventional Vein & Vascular Center. He is currently the Chair of Hospital Quality & Safety/Multispecialty Peer Review committees.
He is a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology. He maintains an appointment as Associate Professor of Radiology at George Washington University School of Medicine and has trained residents and fellows over his entire professional career. Dr. Sterling is a frequently invited lecturer and is a nationally-recognized leader in the field of IR. He has been principal investigator on numerous research trials involving thrombolysis and medical devices. He serves on multiple task forces and committees for the SIR and the Inova Health System. He has been consistently recognized by his peers as one of the “Top Doctors” in Washingtonian and Northern Virginia magazines.
Dr. Sterling graduated with honors in 1985 from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in 1989. He served his medical internship at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York. He was a resident in Diagnostic Radiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and fellow in Interventional Radiology at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology/Washington University School of Medicine.
His areas of special expertise are women’s intervention, VTE, PAD, vascular malformations and stroke therapy.
