Dr. Zlotta, MD PhD, was recruited from Erasme University Hospital in Brussels to Toronto in 2006. He is the Howard Sokolowski Chair in Uro-Oncological Research, a Professor in the Department of Surgery (Urology) at the University of Toronto, and holds multiple appointments as Director of Uro-Oncology at Mount Sinai Hospital, Staff surgeon at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre/University Health Network, and at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute.
As a clinician, Dr. Zlotta has a particular focus on bladder and prostate cancers. As a research scientist, Dr. Zlotta has acted as an investigator for several large-scale international research projects for bladder and prostate cancer, and established multi-institutional, international programs. Dr. Zlotta has published over 350 scientific papers in Journals like Lancet, Lancet Oncology, Lancet Digital Health, Journal of Clinical Oncology and Journal of National Cancer Institute among many others, as well as textbook chapters and has co-authored the Canadian Bladder Cancer Guidelines. He has been an invited Professor internationally and is the PI of grants from CIHR and OICR among others. He is the recipient of numerous international awards, including the EAU Crystal Matula Award in 2000 (equivalent of gold cystoscope for the AUA) and the EAU Platinum Award in 2012. He is the former Associate Editor for European Urology, and current Associate Editor of Frontiers in Oncology and Bladder Cancer.
