An internationally renowned prostate cancer specialist, academician, innovator and entrepreneur, Dr. Stone is Professor of Urology, Radiation Oncology and Oncologic Sciences at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed his MD, general surgical and urology training at the University of Maryland in 1984. Dr. Stone then completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a research fellowship in biochemical endocrinology at Rockefeller University in 1986. Dr. Stone has participated in approximately 25 research studies on prostate cancer and has authored over 500 articles, abstracts, chapters and books, most on prostate cancer. He was recently recognized as the top 99.95% position for publications in his subspecialty of brachytherapy. He invented the real-time technique for prostate seed implantation in 1990 and for the past 36 years has trained over 5000 physicians world-wide on prostate brachytherapy. In 1995, he started PROSEED, a real-time 3D Brachytherapy services and training company and sold it to CR Bard in 1998. He then co-founded 3DBiopsy (now Triopsy) in 2012. Triopsy recently received FDA approval for a new prostate biopsy system he invented that can take a variable length specimen up to 5.5 cm in length. Starting in 2007 he traveled to Japan 20 times over nine years and taught urologists and radiation oncologists brachytherapy in over 100 hospitals. Most recently he started Viomerse, a surgical education company that makes polymer phantoms used to teach physicians on new medical devices. These are being used in over 50 medical device companies and academic centers in the US and Europe. Viomerse recently introduced an extended reality headset designed for remote training, observation and as a wearable monitor.
