Zizo Al-Daqqaq, BScN, is a second-year medical student at the University of Toronto. Zizo previously graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, where he was named valedictorian of the 2021 graduating class.
Zizo has worked as a research assistant at several institutions, including the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, where he contributed to the development of 5+ databases on prostate and bladder cancer patient outcomes. He also works with Dr. Monica Farcas' team at St. Michael's Hospital, where he developed "The Zizo Adapter" being presented here at AUA2023.
Zizo has gained valuable clinical experience as a Registered Nurse, working in a Cardiac Surgery ICU, inpatient Orthopedic Surgery, and administered 10,000 COVID-19 vaccines at the height of the pandemic with Ottawa Public Health. To support himself through school, Zizo worked many jobs from a young age as a restaurant manager, physiotherapy assistant, ward clerk, and research assistant at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. He now funds the Zizo Al-Daqqaq Healthcare Raven Award to support low-income high school students interested in pursuing healthcare careers.
Throughout his academic and professional career, Zizo has been heavily involved in extracurricular and community activities. He has demonstrated strong leadership skills as the co-lead of the Urology Interest Group and the Clinical Skills Mentorship Club at Temerty Medicine. He is currently the class president for the University of Toronto MD Class of 2025 and was the president of the Undergraduate Nursing Student Association at the University of Ottawa.
Zizo was recognized for his athletic and academic achievement with the OFSAA Character Athlete Award in 2017. He stayed involved as a coach for the LDHSS varsity wrestling and ultimate frisbee teams from 2018-2020 to support young student-athletes.
This will be Zizo's first AUA conference, but certainly not the last!
