Rick is Director of Pharmacy Innovation Programs for Excellus Health Plan, a Lifetime Care Company, with over 15 years of health plan pharmacy operations experience. Drawing upon his experience and expertise, Rick has championed pharmacy services interoperability, guiding his organization through adoption of national standards and the delivery and improvement of electronic prescribing, electronic prior-authorization, real-time benefit check (RTBC), benefit integration and other core pharmacy program capabilities. Today, he is responsible for leading the ideation and delivery of innovative clinical and pharmacy services programs that support the company’s strategic healthcare affordability and access goals. He earned his Master of Science degree in Healthcare Policy and Management from the New School for Social Research in 1998. He is a long-standing member of the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) and is an active workgroup participant as well as co-lead for several task groups.
Rick is also a retired US Army, Medical Service Corps Officer, and Iraq War Veteran, having served 28 years in both a reserve and active-duty status with deployments to Iraq, Haiti, and Guatemala, where he planned and led an array of humanitarian and combat operational medical support missions. He is a member of the American Legion and remains actively involved with Veteran groups and organizations within his community. Rick resides in Syracuse, NY with his wife of 30 years and they have one son who serves in the US Navy and another son who recently started a writing career in NYC.
