Drug Education Coordinator - Clinical Pharmacy Services
Kaiser Permanente Washington
Spokane, WA
Galen Goertzen has been a clinical pharmacist for more than 20 years, first with Group Health Cooperative and later with Kaiser Permanente Washington. He received his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Washington State University (WSU) in 1992 and completed his PharmD also through WSU in 2001. Galen has served in multiple different clinical roles, as a clinical pharmacist, a pharmacy coordinator responsible for specific therapeutic categories and now as a Drug Education Coordinator based in Spokane, WA. His focus has been on improving both the affordability and quality of care, working with both the integrated group practice at KPWA and with the physicians who contract with Kaiser Permanente. He has worked in direct patient care, but also assisted in creating programs that improve quality and affordability across KP’s contracted network. Some of those programs include establishing protocols, shared savings agreements, and quality incentive agreements with contracted physician partners across the state. He has given presentations to various local and regional medical groups, and served as a pharmacy guest lecturer for the University of Washington Medical School in Spokane.
