Dr. Umpierrez is professor of medicine in the division of endocrinology and clinical director of the Diabetes and Metabolism Center at Emory University School of Medicine. He is the President, Medicine & Science of the American Diabetes Association and Past-AACE Board of Directors Member 2017-2020.
His research interests include mechanisms for beta-cell dysfunction in minority populations and hospital management of patients with diabetes. He is the author of more than 400 scientific manuscripts and book chapters, and has presented over 300 research abstracts at national and international scientific meetings.
