Maria Teresa Álvarez Román is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid and Head of the Haemostasis Unit at the University Hospital La Paz, Madrid. She studied Medicine at the University of Salamanca, Spain and, after completing her Haematology residency at Hospital La Paz, she obtained her PhD at the Autonomous University of Madrid with a research project on platelets.
She is a researcher of the “Coagulopathy and haemostasis diseases group” of the La Paz Research Institute (IdiPaz), focused on Research, Development and Innovation. Maria Teresa completed a Postgraduate Training Course on thrombotic pathology and is involved in a great number of clinical trials.
She has published more than 60 manuscripts and more than 30 chapters related to the specialty. She is member of the committee of experts for the development of the “Therapeutic Guide for Haemophilia Patients” for the Spanish Ministry of Health, member of the scientific committee of the European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD), member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the PedNet group, member of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and President of the Scientific Committee of the Victoria Eugenia Foundation.
