R. Mark Payne, MD, FAAP, FACC, is a tenured professor of Pediatrics in the division of Cardiology at Indiana University School of Medicine. He trained at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, and has held multiple positions and responsibilities in clinical care of children with congenital heart disease, as well as creating and directing training programs in translational research. His clinical research is focused on heart failure in children, particularly heart failure in children and young adults with single ventricle heart disease. His basic research is focused on heart failure in the metabolic disease of Friedreich Ataxia and developing a therapy for this disease. He lives in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, and enjoys fly fishing.
