Nicoletta Riva is a lecturer in the Department of Pathology, in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, at the University of Malta. She graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Insubria (Varese, Italy), where she subsequently specialised in Internal Medicine. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Malta (Msida, Malta).
Dr. Riva has special interest in unusual site venous thromboembolism, in particular splanchnic vein thrombosis. She contributed to the management of several studies on this topic, and she is currently leading an international registry on the use of the direct oral anticoagulants for the treatment of unusual site venous thromboembolism (DUST study).
