Janice Young is the Library Director for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Central Office Library in Washington, DC. Her previous tours of duty include working for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Scientific and Technical Information in Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Electronic Resources Librarian at the McDermott Library, United States Air Force Academy; Supervisory Medical Librarian at the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System; Reference Law Librarian at the Clark County Law Library, Las Vegas, Nevada; Librarian at St. Anne School in Las Vegas, Nevada; and Librarian at Warren-Walker Upper International School in Henderson, Nevada. Janice is a veteran of the United States Navy and managed several libraries during her tours of duty in Europe, North America, and the Pacific.
She holds Baccalaureates' in Sociology and Communication Studies, and a minor in Art History from the University of Nevada Las Vegas; Master of Education from Regis University; and a Master of Library Science from Texas Woman’s University. Janice is active in library leadership and management initiatives. In 2012, she was accepted into the prestigious Leadership Pikes Peak Signature Program that advance civic leadership and community engagement in Colorado Springs, Colorado. And past Federal Director, Vice President, and President of the Federal and Armed Forces Libraries Round Table (FAFLRT), and President-Elect for the Association of Specialized, Government and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASGCLA).
Janice is the 2019-2020 Fulbright Scholar Designated Alternate Candidate for Award #10459-TD, Alma Jordan Library, University of the West Indies. And the recipient of the FAFLRT and ASGCLA Distinguished Service Award.
