Milk Banks

The Miris HMA® has been in use in Milk Banks around the world for more than two decades. Originally the analysis was only used to provide NICUs with the nutritional content of the milk. Through out the years this has evolved to also inlude analysis for quality control, categorization of donor milk dependent on nutritional value and even lacto engineering.

Labeling
Donor milk is  analyzed and labeled with the nutritional values. At the NICU these values enables the clinicians to optimise fortofication of the milk to match the nutritional target set for the individual preterm infant.

Cathegorisation
Donor milk is analysed and categorised based on macronutrient content. This guides the clinicians in how to distribute the milk between the babies in the NICU. The most fragile babies receiving the highest nutritional donor milk.

Lacto Engineering
Donor milk from a specific donor is analyzed for nutritional content. Depending on the amount of energy, protein, fat or carbohydrates in that milk it is pooled together with other donors’ milk to create a tailored pool. The aim can either be to create an average pool so all milk delivered has roughly the same content or to create speciality products such as high protein donor milk  batches. The Miris HMA® is also used to verify content of speciality products such as defatted milk.

Quality Control
Donor milk is analyzed to ensure that all milk delivered from the milk bank reaches a set minimum nutritional requirement.
