It’s not every day that Holland Bloorview makes it into the pages of PEOPLE Magazine | PEOPLE.com! We’re sending all our love to Will Goessaert and Elizabeth Dunphy, two hospital staff members who met and fell in love at Holland Bloorview in 2019 and who were married in Toronto on May 4. In a truly full-circle moment, the dynamic couple decided to return to the place where it all started on May 10 to re-create aspects of their “I do” moment in the same spot that captured their hearts. https://lnkd.in/eB_2vDyF Photo: @ Sam Polzin

Over the decades our music and arts programming has grown into an internationally recognized, award winning program, where all children could express themselves and heal through the power of art. Today, music therapy and adapted music education remain staples of Holland Bloorview’s clinical and therapeutic programming. We provide individual and group sessions, offer Glee club and rock band performances, have access to virtual music instruments that operate using gestures and we are currently developing an accessible DJ app for musicians with motor challenges. Check out the latest chapter in our ongoing series celebrating our 125th anniversary! https://lnkd.in/gGhWWvfc #HB125

Talk about a match made in health care! Holland Bloorview staff members Will Goessaert and Elizabeth Dunphy, who met at the hospital right before the pandemic, were recently married in Toronto and decided to re-create their “I do” moment at the hospital. It’s a full circle moment for Will, who first came to Holland Bloorview when he was three-years-old to receive his first prosthetic leg for a congenital above the knee amputation. Truth and Reconciliation requires more than rhetoric and platitudes! The recent Federal Budget's exclusion of expected funds for Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) redevelopment is disappointing. This project is crucial for providing necessary healthcare services to the community. Read more in our CEO's blog https://lnkd.in/g7yBeeZ6 Julia Hanigsberg #healthcare

At Holland Bloorview, we recognize that sociodemographic data helps us understand the unique cultural and health needs of clients and families to offer them care that is culturally appropriate and socially accountable. “The data collection is particularly significant for Indigenous clients and families. In asking, we are supporting the treaty right to health, which is a sacred obligation. Whether it be accessing Jordan's Principle to ensure that all Indigenous children living in Canada can have the products, services and supports they need when they need them, or supporting smudging at Holland Bloorview, together with families, we will create better health.” - Vera Nenadovic, nurse practitioner, brain injury rehab team (BIRT) Read more: https://lnkd.in/eMt27WPZ #WeAskBecauseWeCare
