Today we proudly announce that we will receive €25M in financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Commission. These funds will help us continue our important work with patients and outpatient centers as we expand our presence in France and around the world. We are thrilled to not only receive the support of the European financial community but also the trust of outpatient centers around France as we close the final stages of instruction by DGOS. The entire team is eager to welcome even more patients, providers, and physiotherapists into the Wandercraft community and put these funds to work enabling more mobility than ever. - Nous sommes fiers d'annoncer que nous allons recevoir un financement de 25 millions d'euros de la European Investment Bank (EIB) et de la European Commission. After 9 and a half months at Villa Beretta Rehabilitation Research Innovation Institute, Atalante has reached the milestone of the first million steps taken inside our gyms. Over this period, the exoskeleton has been used for 750 training sessions with more than 60 patients. But what is inside these first million steps? ✔ There are a million small pieces of space that have been painstakingly regained: moving forward, backward, sideways, without the patient leaning on any support. ✔ There are a million intentions: thoughts that, aided by the 12 motors of the Cobot, have resulted in motion in a person after a spinal cord injury, stroke, or traumatic brain injury. ✔ There are at least a billion neurons within the brain, spinal cord, and the sensory receptors inside the muscles, joints, and skin that have lit up at each of these steps, to decide each time the best way to activate themselves fully to relearn how to control the body. #NeuroRehabilitation #SpinalCordInjury #Stroke #TraumaticBrainInjury #RegainingMovement Wandercraft

I am very glad to have attended the AOPA Policy Forum earlier this week in support of the Medicare Orthotics and Prosthetics Patient-Centered Care Act. The bill has three provisions aimed at improving the patient experience with orthotic and prosthetic care. Physical therapists should care for a lot of reasons, but the primary reason being the third provision, which would ensure Medicare beneficiaries access to custom-fitted and custom-fabricated orthoses with a change in their condition or clinical need. AOPA members spent the day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. discussing this bill with policymakers. I am incredibly grateful for the guidance I received from AOPA leadership as well as experienced members in my group. 🚨👏🏽🚀 After 8-10 years since FDA approval, this is major news and a watershed moment for the medical #exoskeleton field: 🏥 "The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (“CMS”) has officially revised its April 2024 Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (“DMEPOS”) Fee Schedule to include a final lump-sum Medicare purchase fee schedule amount for personal exoskeletons with a ceiling-to-floor range from $109,238 to $81,929, and an established rate of $91,032 for each state. CMS states that it calculated this final payment amount by averaging pricing information for exoskeleton manufacturers." 🦿 This update impacts reimbursement for personal exoskeletons like devices from LifeWard (ReWalk) and Ekso Bionics (Indego). 👀 To put this in perspective, these two exoskeletons received FDA approval in 2014 and 2016, so it's taken 8-10 additional years to achieve CMS reimbursement. Kudos to everyone involved on their perseverance and progress! 🎉🥂 This is a huge milestone and hopefully will make #exoskeletons more accessible to people with spinal cord injury, who can benefit from this technology in their daily lives. 🔎 Learn more in the articles below.
