(EDU-R3) AMCP Partner Session: Humanistic and Economic Burden of Misdiagnosis of Bipolar I Disorder: Predictive Models, the Role of Screening, and the Importance of Getting an Accurate Diagnosis
This session is sponsored by Abbvie, Inc. and is not accredited for continuing pharmacy education contact hours.
Differentiating depressive episodes remains a challenge in clinical practice and often results in misdiagnosis and subsequent inappropriate treatment. This can lead to higher costs and healthcare resource utilization, and negative outcomes for patients.
This session will focus on the clinical and economic impact of misdiagnosis of Bipolar I Disorder as Major Depressive Disorder and the importance of earlier recognition and appropriate management. We will also discuss prediction algorithms and how implementation of screening tools may play a role in helping to reduce delays to accurate diagnosis.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Identify the clinical challenges HCPs face in differentiating depressive episodes.
Recognize the clinical and economic impact of misdiagnosis of bipolar I disorder.
Understand how tools and models may help reduce misdiagnosis of patients with Bipolar I.
