Rochelle C. Cassells, Ph.D., is a developmental psychologist whose areas of expertise include the impact of poverty and migration on children's socioemotional and cognitive development. Her research explores how these factors contribute to the health and educational outcomes of disadvantaged youth.
Rochelle is currently the Assistant Director for Research and Evaluation with the Genetic Science Learning Center (GSLC) at the University of Utah. She works alongside a multidisciplinary team of experts who bring science and health information to the public in an easy-to-understand way. She conducts science and health education research and evaluation studies with diverse community members, students, teachers, and faculty. Her evaluation of training programs seeking to increase representation in STEM careers has broadened her research to consider the role of community-based participatory research in promoting science interest and persistence outside the traditional STEM pipeline.
