Brenda Pruitt-Annisette, Ed.D., has a long, exciting career in the field of Information Studies. In January 2020 (pre-pandemic) she joined the iSchool of Information at Kent State University as an Assistant Professor. Prior to this appointment, she served as an adjunct professor, in the College of Education/School Library and Information Science, at the University of Houston Clear Lake. In addition, from 2012 -2017 she provided instruction and leadership as an Assistant Professor/Coordinator of School Media Programs at Chicago State University, Chicago, IL. Before joining the ranks in academia, Dr. Pruitt-Annisette served sixteen years as a district level administrator in the role of Coordinator K-12 Media Services for Fulton County School District, in Atlanta, GA. She holds a B.A. in French Education and a Master’s in Library Science (MLS) from North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC. Her doctorate in Administration and Supervision was earned at Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA.
She remains a life-long learner providing leadership in support of effective K-12 school library programs and school librarians. She holds memberships in numerous professional organizations in which she provides leadership. For example: the American Library Association (ALA) Councilor-at-Large (4th term); American Association of School Librarians (AASL); Association of Library Services for Children (ALSC); Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA); Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation- (CAEP) – Program Review & Site Leader; AASL/CAEP Coordinating Committee – Member; SACO African American Funnel Project - ACRL/Library of Congress - Member; and the Coretta Scott King Book Awards Round Table – Chair.
