Before she became an illustrator, Janet K Lee spent more than a decade working as a buyer for Ingram Book Company. She made her first foray into illustration in 2010 by co-creating Return of the Dapper Men with writer Jim McCann which won an Eisner Award for Best New Graphic Album, as well as making both USA Today and the New York Times “Best Of” lists for 2011. Since then, Lee has illustrated numerous projects, including two Jane Austen adaptations for Marvel Comics. The first book in her most recent series, Sea Sirens, was released in Summer, 2019 from Viking. Like Return of the Dapper Men, Sea Sirens was on the YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teens. The sequel Sky Island was released in June, 2020. Currently, Janet is working on her first solo project, a middle-grade graphic novel for Roaring Brook Press. Janet lives in Nashville, Tennessee and remains active in the local art community, teaching comics workshops in partnership with the Nashville Public Library.
