But when compared to other medical and mental health treatments, we fall short in our integration of addiction and family services, and in the benefits that family involvement can provide in terms of client treatment outcomes. The presenters will introduce a rationale for implementing addiction treatment that is fully trauma-integrated and that simultaneously targets individual and family recovery needs. It will focus on pervasive myths about low family motivation to participate in the treatment process and how these myths negatively impact family engagement. The presenters will review Behavioral Family Therapy, the Family Systems Illness Model, and I-FAST (Family Therapy for Treating Trauma) as models of family treatment/therapy that have been successfully used in the treatment of other chronic diseases and with individuals and families that struggle with chronic mental health issues.
