Linking Human Systems Edwards, Colorado, United States
Session Description: Current global stressors have increased behavioral, mental health, and substance use issues particularly in minority and cross-cultural populations. Couples and family conflict drive a higher need for services. Dormant relational and cultural differences have escalated during the months of feeling trapped and stagnant. Clients and families need to gain a sense of control of their lives and environment through models that offer action and creativity rather than talk therapy.
This experiential workshop offers a technique called Transitional Family Sculpting that incorporates here-and-now, larger environment/ecosystem, and intergenerational influences of individual and nuclear families. This method provides the springboard from cross-cultural and intergenerational survival strengths of the past.
The technique can be used with couples, nuclear and extended families (blood or choice) and their major support systems. It illustrates periods of successful and challenging transitions with lessons that can be learned allowing for resolution of cross-cultural conflict.
Transitional Family Sculpting grew out of Moreno’s Psychodrama and Virginia Satir’s Family Sculpting. It is an action-oriented process that helps couples and families resolve conflict. It is particularly appropriate for cross-cultural families where there may be a challenge of language and emotional expression. This non-verbal process encourages enactment of feelings that are difficult to express.
