I was born and raised in Kentucky. I completed my undergraduate degree from Georgetown College, majoring in Biology with a dual minor in Chemistry and Religion. I subsequently completed medical school and General Surgery residency at the University of Louisville in 2007 and 2013, respectively. I also completed fellowships in Trauma/Critical Care and Clinical Nutrition during my time at Louisville. I am board certified with the American Board of Surgery in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and I am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Furthermore, I obtained an additional board certification in Nutrition with the National Board of Nutrition Physician Specialists and have recently recertified.
I subsequently joined the faculty at University Health Truman Medical Centers (UH-TMC) immediately after completion of training in 2013. I currently serve as the Trauma Medical Director of the UH-TMC and assisted in obtaining our Level 1 American College of Surgeons Verified Trauma Center status in 2019, I also serve as the Medical Director of the Surgical ICU, and the Co-Medical Director of the Progressive Care Unit. Additionally, I am extensively engaged in the ongoing education of medical students, residents, and regional trauma care providers as an Associate Professor of Surgery-UMKC as well as ATLS, FCCS and ATLS course directors.
