Nadia Hanna Bakir, BS, is a fourth-year medical student at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She has a degree in statistics with several years of experience in both experimental design and consultation. Nadia has had the continued privilege of working in the lab of Dr. Ralph Damiano for the past three years. She has also worked under the close guidance of Drs. Faraz Masood and Spencer Melby during this time. Nadia has coauthored projects in the areas of atrial fibrillation, mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation, chest tube clearance, and both valvular and aortic surgery. In medical school, she has been honored with both the Distinguished Student and E.A. Marquard Scholarships, and is a recipient of the AATS Summer Intern Scholarship. She was the lead coordinator for Camp Cardiac in St. Louis, president of her Association of Women Surgeons chapter, and has a passion for both education and mentorship. She intends to pursue an academic career in adult cardiac surgery and is currently applying for residency in the 2021-2022 application cycle.
