Ricky attended the University of Florida where he received a BSc '78 in Chemistry and a PhD '82 in Analytical Chemistry. Ricky received further training in laboratory medicine by serving as a postdoctoral fellow in Clinical Chemistry and Toxicology at Evanston Hospital – Northwestern University School of Medicine. From 1984 to 1986, Ricky served as a clinical laboratory director in Tennessee with the Hospital Corporation of America. In July 1986, Ricky returned to Jacksonville, FL to set up a toxicology laboratory for St. Vincent’s Medical Center (under Consolidated Laboratory Services). After leaving the hospital laboratory in 1991, Ricky served as a consultant for a number of years. In 2007, Ricky joined the US Navy as a civilian chemist where he served as a laboratory certifying official for over 10 years. Ricky currently serves as a laboratory director for four different pain management or drug rehabilitation drug testing laboratories. Ricky also serves as a Technical Consultant/Director to Validity Diagnostics.
