Results:
MWF Ag demonstrates comparable or increased absorbency and wicking properties to the alternative MWF.
MWF Ag demonstrates similar or increased coefficient of friction when compared to the alternative MWF and this improves conditions for the patient in preventing MASD.
MWF Ag has increased flexural rigidity compared to the alternative MWF which means it is more conformable and easier for the product to follow the body’s natural anatomical contours.
In addition to physical performance the MWF Ag reduces odour colonization of bacteria and fungi within the fabric.
Discussion:
The MWF device is a stretch polyester fabric containing fibres impregnated with antimicrobial metallic silver which reduces odour through reducing colonization of bacteria and fungi within the fabric. The new MWF containing silver has demonstrated excellent performance in the comparative assessment.
