In 2007, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) released an Expert Panel Report on the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma. Our knowledge about asthma and its management has continued to evolve since that time, and an update to the guidelines was released in 2020. This presentation will review the key points covered in the new guidelines, including which patients may qualify for single maintenance and reliever therapy (SMART), long-acting muscarinic agents, allergen mitigation, immunotherapy for allergic asthma, fractional exhaled nitric oxide testing, and bronchial thermoplasty.
Learning Objectives:
Learn about the new 2020 NHLBI guideline updates on the diagnosis and management of asthma for children and adults
Understand which patients qualify for the use of simultaneous maintenance and reliever therapy (SMART) and long-acting muscarinic antagonists
