As the birthplace of pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery, Johns Hopkins has a rich history of caring for children with congenital heart disease. The Blalock Taussig Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center is the highest ranked congenital heart program in the mid-Atlantic region by US News and World Report, and our comprehensive program provides the full spectrum of care for patients and families with acquired and congenital heart disease, including congenital heart surgery, interventional catheterization, heart transplantation, and ECMO/VAD. The department of Anesthesia Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins is one of the premier departments in the country and most highly funded pediatric critical care divisions with over $20 million in NIH funding. Current areas of active research include ECMO, neurodevelopmental outcomes following cardiopulmonary bypass, quality and safety in congenital heart care, simulation, and early mobility and developmental outcomes.
